Owner's Description

Mintage: 43.5 Million
Full Step Availability: 33%
Population MS67 6FS (NGC Only): 90/1
Date/mm Information: Like the 1940, eye appealing and well struck examples are plentiful and easy to locate.

Coin Description:
A dazzling superb full step premium gem with glowing golden rose iridescence. Fantastic surfaces and excellent strike are complimented by the attractive toning from this coin obtained from the Compradore Collection.

Comments:
I decided that my coins minted from the year 1940 needed to be of the highest technical quality since they are so easy to locate in high grades. The challenge became finding an example that could stand out in a crowd full of excellence. This coin stands very proud indeed and is the quintessential "TYPE COIN". In addition, the coin bears the pedigree of one of the greatest Jefferson Nickel collectors in history. The Compradore collection of Jeffersons including varieties was the top ranked set in the PCGS registry from 2005-2007. Although the collection was sold in 2008, it still ranks as the all time finest set. Of course this coin never competed in the PCGS registry, but it's previous owner is a testament to the overall quality of the coin. I purchased this coin via a Bowers & Merena auction in March 2009.
