Owner's Description

Mintage: 176 Million
Full Step Availability: 20%
Population MS67 6FS (NGC Only): 15/0
Date/mm Information: One of the easiest coins to find both in high grades and fully struck. Many were minted and many rolls were saved.

Coin Description:
A lightly gold toned early Jeff for the strike conscious collector. While not wildly eye appealing like many of the coins in this set, a razor sharp strike leaves no detail behind and alone merits this coins inclusion in this set.

Comments:
When a coin becomes easy to locate in excellent condition as is the 1940 Jefferson Nickel, only the best example will suffice for a registry set. The current offering is an example of technical superiority. There is one very small tick on the steps that don't interrupt them and one signficant mark hidded in Jefferson's hair. Otherwise this coin approaches perfection in surface preservation, strike, and luster. It also has the dubious distinction of being one of the most difficult coins to photograph in the entire collection. I have never been happy with any photo I have ever taken of this coin, they just don't do it justice. I have not mentioned the eye appeal of this coin. It is not that it does not have eye appeal, rather the eye appeal is a product of the other facets of grading in this particular case. I obtained this coin from a David Lawrence Rare Coin auction in July 2009.
