Owner's Description

The 1882-O is the fifth most common of the rare issues of the 'with motto' series from 1879 to 1883. There are an estimated 7-8 mint state coins.

The "2" in the date is fun -- Winter calls it "Victorian" in appearance. It is similar to the 1892-O, but quite different than the 1852-O, which is characterized by extra upper curl. The 1842 is the most plain of the series.

Census listing: PCGS MS61 4/2 NGC 8/1, 3 of which are designated proof-like.

This coin, a condition census example, is one of the proof like designations. As such the luster is quite different that the two coins in the collection that precede it. Of course, this type of luster brings out the abrasions, and this coin is no exception. The strike is pretty good for this issue, which tyically is weak.
