Owner's Description

The 1860-O date is relatively common, and belongs to what I call "group 5" along with the 1844-O eagle. It is more rare than the last four (1853-O, 1858-O, 1851-O and the 1847-O), which increase is availability with each date.

This is admittedly the weakest coin in the Louisiana Purchase because it is not original, even though it is an NGC AU58. It was purchased sight unseen (on the internet) before I knew better! Having said that -- just try to find one. Not many have traded in the last few years, and the next nice one, whenever it comes, will have competition.

It is interesting to have an example of this date, as it shows how the date got small again at the end of the mint run, although not as small as the 1841-O that begins the run.
