Owner's Description
Central States, May 2007--------------------------------1936 50C Arkansas MS67 PCGS. Lee Lawrie, master sculptor, was one of the more helpful members of the Commission of Fine Arts. When initial commemorative designs were rejected, as in the case of the Arkansas half, he often collaborated with the artist and made useful recommendations. With his recommendations, the models crafted by Emily Bates passed muster, and the final design reflects his influence. Vivid reddish-orange, gold, and blue-green hues grace both sides of this strongly lustrous piece, and the obverse also displays magenta and plum at the margins. Population: 7 in 67, 0 finer (3/07).
From The Cary & Cheryl Porter Collection.
