Owner's Description

The great buffalo was and still is a reverent symbol in Native American culture. When a buffalo was taken, Indians efficiently used every piece so not to waste any part of the animal. While I am not familiar with the spiritual aspects, rituals were performed that varied by tribe. Lewis and Clark saw great herds of these animals roaming the plains. Unfortunately, our ancestors did not understand their value. Various stories of using Buffalo's as target practice are still talked about today some 80+ years after development of the US rail system. From a coin perspective, the Buffalo Nickel was a driving factor in this coins development. This coin is definitely not a wooden nickel!
