Owner's Description

Hands down, this is one of my favorite classic proofs! It was actually my first 19th century proof coin which I bought from Pinnacle Rarities which has appreciated since my purchase. It has gorgeous champagne toning with the grade limited by a staple scratch at 11:00 on the obverse. There are absolutely no hairlines on this wondercoin. If not for the scratch, it would grade 67 easily.

http://boards.collectors-society.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1362910&an=0&page=0#Post1362910

******************************
1885 QUARTER DOLLAR
******************************

Mintage:
Circulation strikes: 13,600
Proofs: 930

Designer: Obverse by Thomas Sully, modified by Christian Gobrecht and Robert Ball Hughes, executed by James Barton Longacre; Reverse by Christian Gobrecht, modified by James Barton Longacre

Diameter: ±24.3 millimeters

Metal Content:
Silver - 90%
Copper - 10%

Weight: ±96.5 grains (±6.3 grams)

Edge: Reeded

Mintmark: None (for Philadelphia, PA) below the eagle on the reverse
