Owner's Description

A 2-26-07 $385 NGC marketplace purchase from zrlevin with his description.

It is the luster, though a nice cartwheel, that is keeping the grade back, not any marks. It has nice cartwheel luster, but it is not the dripping gem that is needed to achieve a high grade.

The surfaces are nice and clean with very few marks, as I mentioned earlier. Iwill not deny that this coin has been dipped, but it has gained beautiful golden periferal album toning since then.

http://boards.collectors-society.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=domestic&Number=1454817&Searchpage=1&Main=1454817&Words=1831+zrlevin&topic=&Search=true#Post1454817

This coin was struck with heavily clashed dies, giving this coin great character. In addition to the clashes visible on both the obverse and reverse, there are numerous die cracks and gouges and even a filled S in "states".

********************
1831 HALF DIME
********************

Mintage:
Circulation strikes: 1,242,700
Proofs: est. 10

Designer: William Kneass

Diameter: 15.5 millimeters

Metal content:
Silver - 89.25%
Copper - 10.75%

Weight: ±1.35 grams

Edge: Reeded

Mintmarks: None (all coins of this type were struck at Philadelphia)
