Owner's Description

As I have worked to build a Short set of Walker halves I have tried to focus my efforts in searching for coins that provide that added element of eye-appeal that makes each coin somewhat unique. Admittedly this is a matter of an “eye of the beholder” type situation, but I think that most of these coins meet my criteria quite nicely.

That brings me to the current coin – a MS64 1941S. This is a tough coin to locate as most collectors of this series know, but for me the task was that much more difficult since I wanted something more than a run-of-the-mill brilliant (read dipped) coin. True mint luster or color add a bit of a premium to this date and this caused me to have to pass on a couple of coins that crossed my path. Fortunately this coin came up in a recent Teletrade Auction over the holiday and I jumped at the chance to secure this beautiful specimen.

This coin is solidly graded. The strike is good, but weak is a few key areas. There are scattered contact marks on both Obverse and Reverse though none are terribly distracting. For me the color is the most appealing feature with a beautiful rose patina across the Obverse – most noticeable in the image from “L” of Liberty around to “IN GOD WE TRUST” - and around the rim of the Reverse. Additionally, there is a touch of aqua between the “L” of Liberty and the date. All-in-all I am very pleased to add this coin to my collection.
