Owner's Description
1798 $1 Five Stripes AU55 NGC. B-6, BB-96, R.3. Die State IV. A moderately scarce variety for 1798, but a conditionally challenging coin. The B-6 is usually not seen any finer than VF. Choice AU examples such as this are scarce and this piece should be of interest to many early dollar collectors. The surfaces are brilliant with slight evidence of luster remaining. Light friction can be seen over the highpoints of the obverse as well as the eagle's breast on the reverse. The only surface disturbance is a shallow planchet lamination below the I in LIBERTY and several light pinscratches in the same area. Sharply defined throughout.
