I find it interesting that Fr-1200, the common Speelman-White 1922 $50 Gold Certificate has 648 graded by PMG (as of 6/1/2018) whereas the Fr-1198 Parker/Burke signature combo from 1913 has only 26 graded. Only 6 notes have graded higher than this note. In addition this note is comment free with excellent colors. The Fr-1198 is 25 times less common than the Fr-1200 but the price differences don't reflect that? I believe those that collect the more rare versions of the notes that have the same design will be rewarded one day.

The Fr-1199 is not terribly common. Even though there is slight damage in the reverse, center of the note, the well balanced margins, along with the pleasing orange reverse and very nice obverse made the $1400 investment worth every penny as I continue to approach the NUMBER 1 position in Gold Certificates, Complete Set!

There are precious few AU and/or EPQ Grant large note $50's. According the the population reports, PMG has graded a total of 648 Fr-1200's. This is one of two notes that graded 53EPQ. 41 notes have graded higher. Out of those 41 notes, 16 have graded EPQ. Thus this note is in the 6th percentile highest only 2.4% have graded higher with EPQ. Fr-1200's in near uncirculated condition graded as EPQ are quite rare.
Fr-1200, the common Speelman-White 1922 $50 Gold Certificate has 648 graded by PMG (as of 6/1/2018) Update: (as of 12/6/2019) PMG has graded 676. That is an increase in the population of 28 notes in a year and a half. Thus the population of PMG Fr-1200's has increased by over 4% in a very short time.

The recent auction of the Doug Murray collection saw a lot of great all the way to average notes. However, I like to own notes by great collectors if the price is right. Of course, I always look for Thomas Flynn notes, also Doug Murray, Chet Krause, The Siesta Collection. Although this note is a "set completer" it is a comment free note with nice color. Completing collections is costly and sometimes one must purchase inexpensive notes to complete sets. I doubt I'll ever complete the complete Gold Certificate collection, mainly because of the scarcity and price of the 1201 - 1215's. Even the Grant 50's that are Fr. 1198, 1199, 1200, 1200a, 1200m, 1200am is daunting. Four pricey Grant $50's are required just to complete the Fr. 1200 series. My Fr. 1200 PMG 53 EPQ was costly enough. The other three, of which this is one note, will probably be VF. these four notes in XF to AU could easily surpass $20,000. It's an expensive hobby for us paper junkies and the chance you will ever see a profit, or even break even is not probable. Thus we do it for pleasure.
