Owner's Description

Pick 29, a beautiful 25 Livres showing a caravan near Salihiyeh outside Damascus. Back showing a water well in Baakline in Lebanon. Variation with overprint A (one slash). These 25 Livres were printed during WWII in London, and marked with different geometric shapes to allow authorities to cancel them if the enemy got hold of the notes. The banknotes are dated 1 September 1939, the day Germany invaded Poland. They were put in circulation (with overprints) in 1942 and 1943.
