Set Description:
Lebanon Banknotes HSB Collection: Banque du Liban 1964 to date.
I am glad to share with you my collection of Lebanese banknotes from 1964 to date. These notes are issued by the Banque du Liban (known as BDL, French for Bank of Lebanon). I started building this collection in 2010 when I saw one Lebanese Lira (issued in the 1980s) on eBay that I used to use when I was a small kid. This complete sub-collection is part of my Lebanon collection since 1925.
While the older Lebanese banknotes are more appealing due to the ornate designs used and the efforts of renowned artists, the BDL issues lack this glamour. However, many notes issued by BDL have their attractions. For example, picks 68 to 71 all have dimensions of 156 mm x 67 mm. The area comes up to 10,452 square millimeters. The area of Lebanon is 10,452 square kilometers!
A commemorative banknote, 50,000 livres pick 98, was issued in 2015 to celebrate 70 years anniversary of the Lebanese Army (1945-2015). This was the first polymer note in the Arab world that has one face in a vertical direction. Another commemorative banknote, 100,000 livres pick 99, that celebrates 100 years of "Grand Liban" (1920-2020) was the first Arabian note with a three-dimensional feature.
Several notes in my BDL collection enjoy Top Pop designations including a good number of notes with a PMG 70* grade, the most elusive designation.
I find it very important for collectors to exchange information and to display their collections as such practices enrich the hobby. I sincerely hope you will enjoy looking at my collection.
