Owner's Description

1861-S Double Eagle, AU58 Rarely Seen Finer
1861-S $20 AU58 NGC. The San Francisco Mint produced a small number of Paquet Reverse twenties before striking 768,000 examples with regular reverse dies. However, widespread circulation and little numismatic interest in mintmarks combined to minimize the number finer than the present coin. This No Motto piece displays just a touch of friction over lustrous, honey-gold surfaces that show abrasions evenly distributed throughout. Only 13 coins have been certified numerically higher by NGC (6/14).
