Owner's Description

1858-S $20 AU55 NGC. The San Francisco Mint managed to strike well over 800,000 examples of this early double eagle, likely many deriving from newly mined California gold and others from newly melted Territorial gold coins and ingots. This Choice AU example exhibits a scattering of light marks, fewer than expected, over surfaces that still show much luster, attractive orange-gold color, and a bold strike.
