Owner's Description
GSA Hoard – From time to time, the U. S. Government seizes assets (cars, boats, cash, etc.) for a variety of reasons (criminal activity, foreclosures, abandoned property, delinquent taxes, etc.). When gold coins are seized and eventually sold to the public, with supporting documentation, NGC will make a special notation on the label as appears on the slab of this coin. (Not to be confused with the GSA Carson City Silver Dollar sale.)
This example from the GSA Hoard is a 1909-S St. Gaudens $20 gold piece graded AU50 by NGC. Given the circulated condition of the coin, it was probably pard of a government seizure or “left-over” after the government took gold coins out of circulation.
