Owner's Description
1961 saw the mint make an unheard of leap for number of proof sets produced for the year with a little over 3 million, (3,028,244 to be exact)
Still plaguing the mint was the continuation of hairlines and "milk spots" although the number of affected coins has dramatically dropped in this year with the majority being clean of these problems. With that being said, finding quality gem proofs should present no problem in the PF 65 - PF 68 range. Finding one in PF 69 though is quite different and very challenging as it is considered very rare to find one in this lofty grade. Cameo's are still displaying different degrees of frost from the obverse and reverse and if one spends enough time, one can be acquired, but they are rare.
1961 also offers, if lucky enough to find, the "King of 20th Century die errors varieties. The 1961 Franklin Proof Double Die Reverse. Find one of these and you have hit the proverbial Jack-Pot !!!
