Owner's Description

Proof production again increased in 1953 to a total mintage of 128,800 sets. Quality was still a major issue even though modest improvements were noted. The 2 main culprits were hairlines and unattractive toning. Also noted is the mirror quality of the 1953 Franklin Proof were not as deeply mirrored as the previous year as the coins were being struck on very worn dies. One must note though that with a sharp eye and a determined will, finding a higher grade brilliant coin can be done. Cameo's whether or not they are deep or just cameo are still very rare and worthy of the extended hunt. The past history of the 1953 Franklin Proof shows that the future looks very bright for this year in not only in demand but also in higher than average gains in their fair market value.
