Newfoundland 1870 20 centsKrause ID: KM#4Mintage: 50,000This is a very nice example of the Newfoundland series of .925 silver 20 cents coinage. The obverse shows Queen Victoria. Most Newfoundland coins experienced extensive circulation. Newfoundland coinage is fairly difficult to find in the higher grades due to low mintages such as this date and the fact that hard coinage was preferred over paper money from 1865 thru 1947 due to two bank failures. NGC gave this coin VF 20. The wear shown in the photos is typical of this series of coins.
