Owner's Description

We have definitely moved into the 90s in the Conan run, poor Geof Isherwood is having to deal with the blue swimsuit. Isherwood's art is pretty hit or miss for me - but I can see him really tackling this idea, with the birds-eye-view of a lizard-beast simultaneously taking on Conan & Sonja while stomping on some unfortunate that got too close to his flank. The little red blood splotch in the corner makes a huge difference. It think a lot of my problem with this cover is the blandness of the colors. Even with that sweet mix of greens on the beastie - the dirt is just too dull. And a lot of this image is dirt. I just don't get how Conan is always so much ruddier in color than Sonja - her arms are bare for crying out loud - what is she doing, wearing sunscreen? Anyway, look at that shoulder on Sonja - at least Isherwood tried to put some muscle on her. I gotta chime in on the reverse grip on the dagger though - that works, sometimes, against another swordsman. It is useless against something that large, which is just going to batter you. Get that point out so you can stab whatever the beast swings at you, whether it be a tail or hand or face. You know - I just noticed that the beastie's teeth are green - like he's going to gum them to death. I think that might have been subconsciously impacting my opinion of this image. Because as huge as he is, he does not inspire fear. Of course, I don't think that the birds-eye-view helps that either. I think if we were looking up from ground level at this, somehow - that might inspire, if not fear, at least awe.
Overall - Not a terrible cover - but not one that I'm going to buy off the spinner rack based solely on the cover image.
