Owner's Description

Red Sonja vs the Chin? His chin and grin and Fabio hair are so over the top that I didn't notice Sonja's lost the entirety of her butt armor. Like there's no butt-flap on her chain at all. You're not going to dissuade the bad guys if you turn tail. I know he's supposed to be huge and over the top and redonkulous with that super-sword, but you get a stronger swing if you separate your hands on the hilt there big-guy. But strong enough to shatter Sonja's sword in two places? I don't know it that's even possible. And I've broken a couple swords in my time. Every one of them had a single break from impact, not two. So, I don't know if I can suspend my disbelief for that part of the image. And it doesn't even stand out - like if it was broken in two, it wouldn't look weak or anything. I don't know this cover artist - but it looks like he's trying everything all at once for the cover - blue skies under black clouds coming from an actively erupting volcano fill the background. That's the background. And in front of that some giant chin with the hair, and wearing a pile of weapons on his back that I couldn't drag to the tournament circle without my squires, has taken the high ground. I don't even understand how Sonja's weapon broke. The position that the two fighters are in, doesn't combine to create any situation where their swords just met violently. Like did he grin at it really aggressively and it broke because of his awesomeness? I do like that Sonja is carefully posed to provide us with all the side view of her curves and a long leg curvy leg to go with that bare ass that's hanging out. At least her hair is on point. And she's got the muscles. You know how I feel about images where Sonja doesn't look strong. On a final note - maybe it's a little thing, leftover from painting hundreds of miniatures for DnD, but color the handle of the sword hilt differently than the blade. Actually, paint the crosspiece and the pommel weight a third different color as well.
Overall? What an incredibly 90s cover. It's just mayhem. Would I have taken it home for $2.95 based on this cover art? Nah - I don't think so. Can I wallow in its 90s glory now, 30 years later? Shit yeah.
