Synopsis:
Storm delivers Colossus to his homeland of Russia, wishing him well. He knows that Storm truly understands that he may never return to the X-Men. He walks to his collective and finds Illyana, picking flowers. She is pleased to see him, as are his parents, who emerge from their wooden house, all smiles. Later, they eat and look at pictures Piotr has drawn of his adventures. His father is skeptical about the depictions, believing they are like something from the stories he used to tell Piotr and Mikhail when they were little. Piotr wishes to take a walk, deciding to visit his old friend, Sasha. His parent’s reaction surprises him and his mother asks Illyana to lead him to Sasha. She takes him to a grave, where Piotr discovers his friend was killed in action in Afghanistan. He barely has time to grieve before a tanker filled with propane gas turns over; the resulting flames threatening to destroy the entire collective. Piotr armors up immediately and carries the truck to a safe distance. Hailed as a hero, the adulation is short-lived, as another man Piotr knows from long ago appears, named Aloysha. He has battle wounds and he brands Piotr a traitor for not being there when his country and his friends needed him. He launches a scathing verbal attack and Piotr feels much of what he says is indeed true. He is arrested, branded a deserter, and taken to an army camp, where Aloysha continues to pour scorn in Piotr’s direction. KGB Colonel Alexei Vazhin arrives and takes him in his car back to his collective. Stopping nearby, he informs Piotr that he can never return to his family. Piotr says his parents will think he really is a traitor, but Vazhin is adamant and tells him to return to his X-Men. There, he can serve his true Rodina well. That’s where he belongs.

Quotes:
"Bid farewell to the farm boy, sonny... you're a "hero" now-- the hardest life of all-- you'd best get used to it. Go back to the X-Men, Colossus. That's where you're needed... where you can best serve your true Rodina. Lad, that's where you belong!" —Colonel Vazhin
