Owner's Description
DC/Wildstorm continued their well-intentioned effort to produce standalone stories in the EverQuest universe with Transformation, released in August 2002, about five months after Ruins of Kunark. It's ... okay.
This one was produced without the direct involvement of Brad McQuaid or any of the other EverQuest franchise lore people, and more than anything, it just comes across as a book whose creators' hearts weren't really in it. Devin Grayson's writing is thin but unobjectionable. Philip Tan's interior art is actually quite nice, and there's nothing really amiss with Whilce Portacio's cover work. But it's hard to get excited about this book. Obviously, all three of them went on to bigger and better things.
This was the last EverQuest comic book released. DC determined, probably correctly, that there just wasn't enough overlap between players of their MMORPG and comic book readers. Also, I suspect they realized that it was harder to keep both writing and artwork on point to their existing lore. The franchise would have somewhat more success with novel tie-ins over the following few years.
