I first learned about Paper Girls via a collegue I was working with on a video shoot in 2020, so I was definitely late to the game. but as the old adage goes, "Better Late Than Never"...
He mentioned that he had two younger daughters who really responded well to the comic and story line, helped them feel confident, empowered etc, which peaked my curiosity since I have two daughters as well. Although my girls are much older, I believe you can find confidence and Inspiration anywhere and at any age.
So I purchased the single Graphic Novel encompassing all 30 comic issues for myself, my daughters and my son as well. The Story line is Fabulous but I really love the artwork, which "to me" was a combination of old school, detailed but "quite" comic art with what I feel is the currant "border-less" "Big muscles, Big Teeth" " Very Loud" Comic art of today. Isn't it amazing how each of us sees art in different ways...
So now I'm a hardcore FAN and wanted to collect a complete run of the comic.
This 1st issue cover of all 4 girls, is Awesome, showing all 4 girls confident and ready to do what ever it takes to save the world. I found this CGC Signature Series of issue #1 on eBay and was excited to see the extra art sketch of Erin Tieng by Cliff Chang and Matt Wilson on the back cover, it was a nice little, no... Huge bonus. Of course Cliff sketched the image of Erin's face and Matt added the color with the "soon to be infamous" "Red Dot" its amazing what a little color can do....
