Synopsis:
Havok is driving Polaris in their Jeep. They are looking for signs of Proteus, but Havok’s mind is in turmoil. His mind wanders as he drives, and he puts the Jeep in a ditch by the roadside. Lorna asks him what he was thinking. His actions could have killed them both. Alex is uncertain. He explains that, lately, when he’s driving, he begins thinking about how fast they’re going and how easily it would be to just smash. He’s been having these feelings since the first day he met Lorna. As he speaks, he begins to drift again and Lorna decides she will drive from now on. She takes him to the air, leaving their Jeep behind, but Alex once again drifts off, dreaming that they become one, before smashing fatally to the ground below. Once again, Lorna manages to bring him back to reality. He admits that he feels he is beginning to understand what he’s been thinking about. All he can see for them is an eventual, inevitable end. He fears that their lives as X-Men are destroying what happiness they could have. He is frustrated, and trapped. He doesn’t want their lives to end in tears. They see clouds on the horizon and hear the sound of gunfire. They jump into their Jeep and make their way to the battleground, finding that the battle is already over. Storm and Wolverine are recovering from their meeting with Proteus and Wolverine particularly is visibly shaken by the experience. Havok knows he doesn’t wish to see the horror Logan has seen, ever. He won’t fight that last battle. He wants out of the X-Men.
