NM, White Pages. 1st Appearance and Origin of The Question. I bought this book raw off of ebay directly from a seller claiming its condition was VF/NM. I sat in front of the computer until the auction ended at around $35. After receiving the comic in the mail, and approving of the decent grade, I decided to submit it to CGC, and surprisingly, it came back at this wonderful 9.4 with white pages! This was the first (and only) time a book came back from CGC at a higher grade than I expected...The Blue Beetle stars in "Bugs the Squids." Script by D.C. Glanzman. Back-up story, "Question." All art and cover by Steve Ditko. Cover price $0.12.

NM+, White pages, BOSTON PEDIGREE, Origin of Ted Kord and Question backup story. This one was some trouble to acquire. Originally, I bought a proclaimed NM #2 off ebay and sent it in to CGC only for it to come back at a measly 6.5 with cream pages. (Poor grading judgment on my part) I sold that book and took a big hit and purchased a CGC 8.5 in an older holder from a comic dealer online. I accidentally found a seller right here on the CGC boards who was getting rid of a #3-9.2 and a #2-9.0 both with white pages! So, I figured I'd just get them both...Finally, this pedigree copy showed up on HA.com and I jumped on it. Origin Ted Kord/Blue Beetle (Ted Kord/Blue Beetle first appeared in Captain Atom # 83). Dan Garrett crossover. "The End is a Beginning!" Question back-up story (untitled). Scripts by D. Glanzman. Plots, art, and cover by Steve Ditko. Cover price $0.12.

NM-, White Pages Question backup story. #3 was the last book I needed to complete this set. I never realized how scarce high grade Charlton books were to find. I first bought a proclaimed NM raw #3 from ebay that came back from CGC at a 7.0 with cream pages. My second attempt was purchasing a raw #3 in NM condition from High Grade Comics. I was concerned that a faint vertical groove that ran the length of the front cover and spine stress would hurt the grade if submitted to the CGC, but was hoping for an 8.0 or better. (Subsequently, I traded this book in to Mycomicshop.com for store credit and they only graded it at a FINE) As I was preparing to send the High Grade copy to CGC, I accidentally found a seller right here on the CGC boards who was getting rid of a #3-9.2 and a #2-9.0, both with white pages!..The Blue Beetle stars in "The Madmen." Untitled Question back-up story. Scripts by D.C. Glanzman. Plots, art, and cover by Steve Ditko. Cover price $0.12.

NM+, White Pages. Rocky Mountain Pedigree. Question backup story. It was very, very hard to find a high grade copy of #4 for this set. After searching online for a while, I spotted an ebay store with this listed for around $40. I took my chances and bought it. When I received it and inspected it, I was a little concerned about a glaring spine break along the middle, but hoped for a high grade. CGC returned to me in 9.0 with white pages! But recently, I managed to catch the Rocky Mountain Pedigree copy graded at 9.6! The Blue Beetle stars in "The Men of the Mask!" Untitled Question back-up story. Scripts by D.C. Glanzman. Plots, art, and cover by Steve Ditko. Cover price $0.12.

NM, white pages, Rocky Mountain Pedigree, Question backup story. Once I had a #1 in 9.4, and a #4 in 9.0, I started looking for a high grade #5. In the middle of a month when I had no spending cash (all the good books usually show up for sale when I'm broke, it seems) I found an ebay seller who had BB #3 and #5 both at 8.5 up for separate auctions with starting bids of $39.95 and a Buy It Now of $49.95. These were in the old CGC labels, mind you. Since, at the time, I needed both #3 and #5, I felt I was in luck. I did the buy it now on #5, but made the mistake of waiting to see if I could get #3 cheaper. As it turned out, the #3 8.5 went for over $55. Let that be a lesson to all : If a Buy It Now seems like a good deal, jump on it, because bidding wars make prices go higher than expected. I still got #5 and sent it in to CGC for the new holder with an updated label, and now, I found a 9.4 on comiclink and it's a pedigree!...Final issue of the series. The Blue Beetle stars in "Blue Beetle Faces the Destroyer of Heroes." Untitled Question back-up story. Scripts by D.C. Glanzman. Plot, art, and cover by Steve Ditko. Cover price $0.12.
