The demand was very high and the quantity available coins was very low. Edward Moy was the Mint Director who testified that the public was very unhappy that there was not enough silver to make the proof and the uncirculated versions of the Silver Eagle. On December 14, 2010 Barak Obama gave the authority to mint enough American Silver Eagle coins in all varieties to meet the demand of the public.
