Palau - Hunters By Night Series (Eagle Owl)

The little mouse that lives in a field does not suspect anything. Calm and unconcerned, feeling safe under the cover of darkness. But wide-open orange eyes have taken hold of the little creature. A hunter high up in the branches readies itself, stretches its wings and silently dashes through the night towards its furry prey.

The second edition of the Hunters by Night series is a tribute to one of nature’s finest predators – the Eagle Owl. Alongside the ultra-high relief in enhanced smartminting technology, the intense, glistening eyes of the feathered beast pierce the deep black night, which is achieved in a very realistic way by our exclusive Obsidian Black finish. So little light is reflected of this ultra-black finish that it requires you to view the piece at just the right angle to fully see all the incredible details the coin possesses.

Limited to 888 pieces.

The obverse side of 2021 Hunters at Night Eagle Owl Coins showcase a Eurasian Eagle Owl in close up. The feathers and the background are rendered with an Obsidian black finish, which highlights the bird’s brilliant and ominous incandescent eyes. The black and orange colors and the bird’s eyes looking directly at you is enough to send shivers down your spine.

On the reverse of the 2021 Palau Silver Hunters at Night Eagle Owl Coin is the Palau coat of arms. Surrounding it are stunning rock formations and a starry night sky, which would be the environment where Eagle Owls are commonly found. Inscriptions include The Republic of Palau, $10, and Hunters by Night.

The Eurasian Eagle Owl is quite the intimidating bird. Scientifically known as the Bubo, these owls are among the largest in the world. And with an average weight of ten pounds and a wingspan of nearly six feet, they are truly dominant birds of prey. If you’re a bird watcher, you can find them in both deserts and mountainous regions of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Palau is an archipelago of over 500 islands, part of the Micronesia region in the western Pacific Ocean. Koror Island is home to the former capital, also named Koror, and is the islands’ commercial center. The larger Babeldaob has the present capital, Ngerulmud, plus mountains and sandy beaches on its east coast. In its north, ancient basalt monoliths known as Badrulchau lie in grassy fields surrounded by palm trees. ― Google
