Owner Comments:

A contest was held to submit designs for the new Hungarian Republic coinage of 1992 in the denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 forint. This 10 forint design was part of a submission by the sculptor Mihály Fritz. While his submission was ultimately not selected for the final business strikes, a small number of copper strikes of the 10 forint submission were produced by the Szeged mint. As the coin was a pattern for the Budapest mint and already featured the BP mintmark in the design, the Szeged mint stamped their mint mark "SZ" on the edge of each piece. A few examples of this type were also struck in silver, but they are even rarer than this issue.
