Caltha is a genus of small flowering plants of ten species which occur in damp, cool regions of both northern and southern hemispheres. The plant on this coin, Caltha palustris is known as the marsh marigold and is native to the northern hemisphere. It has many, small, bright yellow flowers with five petals (actually sepals).
