Lyman Allen #2.09 (KM #163) - Mintage: 4,803,000
This issue is fairly common, but Red and RB examples are rare. Too bad this one is neither.
This particular coin is well struck and very dark. It also looks a lot like an S/S but is actually mechanically doubled.
Varieties:
------------
ALLEN-2.09a - S/S - At least two distinct over mint mark varieties exist. I can attest to this fact since I currently own an uncertified example of each one. The first looks very much like the "horned 'S' variety" of 1908. In the second, the under mint mark appears to the right of the dominant block S and the "1" in the date appears doubled to the left at the top. The S/S variety is recognized by both NGC and PCGS.
