Ludgate was the principal gate of London and stood on Ludgate Hill, slightly to the east of the Old Bailey. Built in the early 13th century, the structure was damaged in the Great Fire of 1666. Ludgate was sold for £148 in 1760 and was pulled down shortly thereafter.
One of Peter Kempson's series of London building tokens made for collectors. The series consists of 39 tokens portraying 25 buildings, 3 bridges, and 8 ancient gates of London.
