Medal, Plaquette, c.1900, Bronze, United States. DAUGHTER OF THE REVOLUTION, by E. J. Ruquet. Important Bas Relief, large Plaquette, 6 inches x 6 inches. Uniface. Obv. Female with early American Bonnet, Long Hair, looking right, Amazing Detail with original patina, signed by medallist at bottom. Investigation into the medallist found only two individuals with the name of E.J. Ruquet. One was an artist who assisted in the supervision and erection of a memorial statue in Virginia dedicated to lost soldiers and veterans sometime before 1900. In a magazine from Ulster, NY, the following excerpt is found: "I wish to make public acknowledgement of my obligations to the Honorable Maurice J. Power at whose fine art foundry all the bronze work was done, for the most valuable advice and direction to the sculptor, Mr. B.M. Pickett, whose skillful hand and imagination eye moulded our daughter of the regiment and who listened with unwearied patience to my criticisms and suggestions, and also to Mr. E. J. Ruquet, Judge Power’s representative, who superintended the final erection of the work.". The second individual with the name of E.J. Ruquet is E.J. Ruquet, Jr., possibly the firsts son?, and he was found in the records of patents, for a Clamp Bolt, Patent US1343089. Provenance: Purchased from an estate sale in Indiana, out of a collection assembled over many years.
