Medal, Plaque, c.1951, Bronze, United States. MOTHER AND CHILD, by Constanzo Luini, Sculptor, (who did the famous Spalding trophies for the Diegges & Clust medal firm. Uniface Plaque. Obv. Magnificent rendering in high relief of a mother and child, signed by C. Luini at bottom right. Size: 9.5 x 6.25 Inches. Integral Loop on Reverse for Hanging if desired. Medallist: Costanzo Luini (1886-unknown) was a descendant of Bernardino Luini the fresco painter, student of Leonardo da Vinci. Costanzo immigrated to the United States at the turn of the century and dedicated much of his work to patriotic and religious themes. From the collection of Jonathan Brecher, co-editor of the 2nd Edition of the So Called Dollar Catalog. This item was originally one of 21 plaques purchased as a large lot in a Boston, MA auction, and the seller was believed to be from the Dieges family.
