Medal, 1932, Silvered Copper, GEORGE WASHINGTON BICENTENNIAL OF BIRTH, CITY OF GREEN BAY, WI, Commemorative Medal, Baker B-940A, NGC MS65 Gem, Cert# 2621753-027. Obv. Washington right, Souvenir Coin below, legend in fancy script above; Rv. Issued to a Sponsor of Green Bay, Wis. 1932, George Washington Bicentennial in 3 line inscription, blank "sign" in center for name to be engraved. Issued by the City of Green Bay, Wisconsin, to be engraved and presented to sponsors of the City's celebration of George Washington's birth in 1932. This occasion was a really big deal, akin to that of 1909 on the occasion of Abraham Lincoln's Birth Centennial. Any number of tokens and medals were issued around the country, as can be attested to the catalog first produced by William Baker in 1885 - at the time "Washingtonia" was the hot collectible field in numismatics! This is listed as Baker 940A in the 2nd Edition by Rulau/Fuld; silvered copper. Super Attractive Proof Like Specimen.
