This is a special limited issue Brilliant Uncirculated £1 One Pound Coin This particular design was produced from 2008 to 20014. It's Cupro-Nickel (I think), weighs in at 9.5 grams, is 22.5 mm in diameter, and only 3.15 mm thick. The coin you see here is mis-labeled as a silver piedfort.
This is an interesting coin - - Unlike the coins in my Metcalf's Sterling Legacy collection on the competitive side which are all Proofs, this is Mint State. It's beautiful, but it has a different cast to it. There's no cameo affect. It's bright and shiny like a new nickel. Though it's labeled as a Piedfort (double thick), it's the normal thickness - Still a beauty in all other respects!
The inscription on the edge, DECUS ET TUTAMEN, means 'An Ornament and a Safeguard'. The reverse features the Royal Shield which is divided into quarters. The upper left and lower right panels represent England, the upper right Scotland, the lower left N Ireland.
