This coin depicts a Spanish ship because Spain was the European country that first discovered this archipeligo. The Spanish never settled the island and later the British won countrol of the 50 island chain in a battle with the Dutch. The Dutch retained control of the 3 largest islands which they later sold to the US..known as the US Virgin Islands. - Bought for cheap in a "NNC Certified" holder as a PF70--graded as a generous 67 by NGC...a handsome ship design framed inside a roping..
