Owner Comments:
1888 Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Proof-68 (NGC). Proof Seated Half Dollars are large coins whose surfaces often acted like magnets for detracting hairlines and other blemishes. As such, examples of all types in which this design was issued can be extremely challenging to locate in the highest grades. This exquisite 1888--a low-mintage date of the Motto type--is a very impressive coin in all regards. Both sides are completely original, otherwise olive-copper patina yielding to blushes of lighter tannish-silver and pale-rose tinting at the lower-obverse and upper-reverse borders. A patch of spotlights appear on both sides, making for a very attractive look. There are no areas of bothersome lack of detail, and detracting blemishes are also not seen. One of the finest-known survivors from an original proof and business strike mintage of just 12,832, 832 of which were proofs. The combined PCGS and NGC population for the 1888 in Proof-68 is just 2/0! 555323-002
