Owner Comments:
Queen Wilhelmina spoke of her life of pomp and protocol as “a cage,” in which she struggled to escape. Wilhelmina, now a princess again was a person of devout faith. Wilhelmina requested that her funeral be a “White funeral” because it symbolizes “the certainty of faith that death is the beginning of life.” At the age of 82, on November 28, 1962, Queen Wilhelmina got her wish and escaped from her “cage.” In summary, Queen Wilhelmina had always been the “peoples” queen. The mutual love between Wilhelmina and her people, coupled with her strong will and determination, made her one of the finest world leaders of the 20th century.
This 1933 NGC MS-65 10 Gulden coin is the final coin in the Wilhelmina 10 Gulden gold coin series with a mintage of 2,462,101.
I purchased this set's original and current coin on May 21, 2009. As an added bonus, this coin comes in an old NGC “fatty” slab.
