George Washington Carver deserved better than this ugly coin. He got shafted with a flat, cartoonish design that has as much text as the Bible. This issue was supposed to fight communism in the African American community?! This lame design was trumped by the rather inspired Soviet designs of the day, as much as I hate to admit it. I love the toning, but it's a bit like putting lipstick on a pig. I am not wasting money on a higher grade because nothing is going to make this design look better. George Washington Carver was a great American and he deserved better than this. Even most of the mint's modern commem designs aren't this pathetic.
