Of all the New Orleans half eagles in the set, this is the most available in high grade (AU and above) with an estimated 250 to 300. It is also the second most available overall, right ahead of the 1894-0 date.

In MS63 (this coin's grade) there are PCGS 10/2 and NGC 9/1 (August 2008). Note the PCGS number in MS63 has grown from 2 in 2006, perhaps partly due to resubmissions and partly due to newly discovered coins.

This NGC MS63 is an important condition census, fully original coin, with both the obverse and the reverse covered with thick, frosty luster and show fewer marks tha one might expect for the grade and issue. Only one mark of mention, in the field over the F in FIVE on the reverse The color is a rich orange-gold hue indicative of originality and some pale rose shading can be seen on the high spots. with a die crack around most of the stars on the obverse and coorespondingly, the letters on the reverse.
