Owner Comments:
This is a lovely, original example of the most common New Orleans No Motto eagle. While 571 thousand were minted, the census lists only eight coins graded higher (likely inflated a bit by resubmissions).
This coin came from an overworked die. Recutting shows at the bottom of the 1 in the date. Many die cracks appear. Therefore it is a Winter Variety #2, described as "very rare." The satiny luster shows throughout the coin and has a nice, full cartwheel effect.
What a joy to see such a nice uncirculated No Motto New Orleans Eagle. The New Orleans no motto eagles are just such a rare series, and not many eagles are in uncirculated condition.
