Owner Comments:
Three commemorative dollars were released in 1997. The third silver dollar issued honors the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on the 6th anniversary of its dedication. The obverse of the coin features two police officers making a rubbing of the inscriptions on the memorial, which includes a list of names of officers who died in service. The reverse features a law enforcement shield and single rose stem, and an inscription that reads “To Serve and Protect.”
There were 28,575 uncirculated and 110,428 proof coins, all produced by the Philadelphia Mint. The uncirculated MS70 (with a small mintage) and the proof PF70 dollar coins are difficult to find.
