The first capped bust quarter.
Mintage: 89,235
Made during one of, if not the slowest production years at the mint. 20,003 of this mintage was produced late in the year, officially being delivered in 1816,(along with 47,150 - 1815 half dollars) and therefor that portion showed up on the official mint ledger of 1816 which came out in Jan. 1817, to report to the Congress the production figures of 1816.
Only large cents were actually minted in the year 1816.
Slow years as the mint and the country were recovering from the conclusion of the War of 1812.
With monetary uncertainty, nobody was shipping their bullion to the mint to be coined and they had exhausted their supply of copper planchets from England by this time. Quarters would not be produced again until three years later.
