Owner Comments:

I acquired this earlier date proof Shield nickel at auction in late August 2022. Although an 1868 Shield nickel struck for circulation is one of the most common issues of this type, mint records state that only 600 were struck, although there were likely several hundred more. The coin is provenanced to the "Teich Family Collection" sold at auction in 2013. It has a few corrosion spots but is otherwise attractive, and the holder has a green "CAC" sticker.

The photos are from the PCGS website. (PCGS apparently thought the coin sufficiently significant to photograph even though the coin is in a standard holder.)
