Owner Comments:

I purchased this unusually original Draped Bust quarter dollar for all of $324.50 at a local coin auction in January 1996 and submitted it to NGC for certification in June 2022. I attended auctions held by this small company from the mid-1970s until it ceased to conduct auctions in around 2013. Many of the lots were overgraded, impaired, or occasionally counterfeit or altered. At times, however, I was able to obtain decent coins like this one for a reasonable price, as many of the attendees couldn't tell the difference.

This is an example of die variety Browning-3, a common variety. Like many of this variety, it is weakly struck at the centers. Coins of this type are still hard to find in middle grades like VF, uncleaned and undamaged. I took the photos before the coin was certified.
