All 440,000 1823s were produced with this overdate. There were only 100,000 1822s made so they re-punched the dies for 1823 and kept using them.
This is the more common "Large E", JR-3, R2 variety with approximately 800 in existence. Estimated to be less than 1600 of all three types combined, left in existence today in all conditions.
