In the United States in 1836/ March 1, Convention of delegates from 57 Texas communities convenes in Washington-on-the-Brazos to deliberate independence from Mexico. On April 21,1836 the surprise defeat of Santa Anna by Sam Houston at San Jacinto assured the independence of Texas.
