1999 Silver Kookaburra 1oz Gold Inlay Koban Privy MS68
Planned maximum mintage was 2'500 for the Tokyo Coin Fair in May 1999. But due to production problems only an unknown low quantity was sold. Therefore this is a key coin of any Kookaburra collection. Considering the overall bad quality this MS68 is in high grade and only one graded finer (11/2021).
The koban (小判) was a Japanese oval gold coin in Edo period feudal Japan, equal to one ryō, another early Japanese monetary unit. It was a central part of Tokugawa coinage. The privy represents a 6th Century Tempo Koban Kin coin in particular.
