HOMEMADE (FS3-11)

Mintage: 73.6 Million
Full Step Availability: 0.03%
Date/mm Information: Most mint state examples have nice luster but poor strikes and granular surfaces.

Description: This coin has spectacular and rare rainbow toning with vibrant shades of lemon, orange, strawberry pink, and lime green at the periphery. It also has smooth surfaces and is well struck for the date/mm with nice step detail.

Comments: Only a collector of Jefferson Nickels can appreciate how rare it is to find a 1960's nickel with rainbow toning of this magnitude. And when I saw this coin offered in a lot by my favorite eBay seller with several other nickels, I put a very strong bid and won the lot for $30. This is by far the most attractive 1961 that this collector has ever seen, and since the surfaces rival those of your typical NGC MS67, this coin bumped the MS67 that used to reside in this slot, 3427519-003. There was nothing wrong with that monochromatic gold toner, but it just doesn't hold a candle to this coin, despite its higher grade.
